Welcome to Pearl Harbor — Located just west of Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu, Pearl Harbor is one of the most significant historic sites in the United States. This natural lagoon harbor is home to an active U.S. Navy base and serves as the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet.
In 1887, the United States secured rights to establish a naval repair and coaling station here, marking the beginning of Pearl Harbor’s strategic importance in the Pacific. That importance would forever change the course of world history on December 7, 1941, when the attack on Pearl Harbor led to the United States entering World War II.
